Jack Sullivan, born in Cincinnati in 1924 to Joseph and Eleanor Sullivan, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2023. At eighteen, during the Second World War, Jack, with patriotic zeal, enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Spending a year on special assignment in Milledgeville, Georgia, he had the good fortune that the family of author Flannery O'Connor took an interest in the young sergeant from Cincinnati, often inviting him to Sunday dinner. Afterwards, he served in the war's Pacific arena, mainly in Micronesia and Melanesia. When his service ended in 1945, he enrolled in the Athenaeum of Ohio School of Theology, obtaining a degree in philosophy and later a degree from Xavier University.

His business career began at Globe Chemical Company, where he worked for seven years before he and a business associate, Charles J Koch, ventured out and started their own chemical company, Chemicals Inc. They sold the company in 1988. Due to his special love of the English language, one of his main interests during his retirement years was teaching English to individuals in the Hispanic community, creating in them an appreciation for the language of their adopted home. Jack, known for his clever wit and his ability to tell a great story or a good joke, will be truly missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary (Ray) Dirr, and grandson, Andrew Moore, and is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Connie Castleberry Sullivan, his two daughters, Deirdre (Greg) Beeman and Margaret Sullivan, and his grandchildren, Jack, Eleanor, and Harris. A private family service will be held. Memorials if so desired, may be made to the Cincinnati May Festival or the Cincinnati Art Museum. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Covington (Latonia), KY is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed on Facebook or at www.connleybrothersfuneralhome.com
