Edward Richie Shafer, III, 80, of Florence, KY, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Florence, KY, and a U.S. Navy Veteran. Ed worked at First Federal Savings and Loan in Covington, KY as an operations officer and secretary treasurer. He was a former member of the Boone County Planning and Zoning Board and served several years on the Florence Water and Sewer Commission. Ed was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Helen Shafer, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife of 60+ years: Barb (Beeg) Shafer; children: David (Dianna) Shafer and Debi (John) Thurza; siblings: Pat (Jill) Shafer and Peggy (the late: Joe) Chalk; grandchildren: Jacob (Ashley) Shafer, Sgt. Kellie Shafer, Morgan Thurza and Erik Thurza and great-grandson: Emmett Shafer. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 7301 Dixie Hwy., Florence, KY 41042 at 11:15 AM. Ed has bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Covington (Latonia), KY is serving the family. It was always a pleasure to play golf with Ed in the Senior Golf League at Kenton County. When I'd ask him how he was hitting "them" he'd say "often". We shared a laugh "often". My sympathies are with his family at this sad time. RIP friend.
